Transforming Trauma Into Freedom For Life

Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga

An Evidence Based Trauma Treatment
for Your Body, Mind and Spirit

WELCOME, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE!

Is your daily living impacted by a recent or past traumatic experience?

Do you feel stuck on your path of recovery and healing?

Need a safe place to connect without having to talk about your trauma experience?

Moving through Trauma with EmpowerYoga

Whether it’s the first step in your healing or the need to move through a barrier, I meet you where you are at, holding space for whatever arises while offering you the opportunity to connect with your body, connect your body & mind, and move toward self-regulation with accessible tools for daily living.

All practices are offered with a trauma informed approach backed by years of education and experience.

Compassionate presence, safe space, and choice in everything you do.

This is for you…

If you have experienced sexual, emotional or physical abuse, are experiencing complexities of grief relating to trauma, have history of addiction, PTSD or live with chronic pain or the impacts of traumatic injury, I am here to support you in healing and moving toward a deep sense of liberation from the captivity of your pain and struggle.

If you work with trauma survivors and are feeling close to your capacity or over the edge, we can work together to support your needs for self care and compassion, and preventative practices.

No yoga experience is required. All shapes, sizes, genders, cultures, and ages are welcome! If you can breathe, you can do this. Remember, I meet you where you are at, no expectations or agenda. The experience IS the outcome. Over time, you will naturally experience an awakening of awareness that empowers you to make choices for your body, for your being, for your life.

Sharing Their Experience

“Thank you for sharing this powerful practise with us, I learned a lot about the use of language and will be more aware of that with my clients.”

Sharing Their Experience

At first this was really challenging for me to slow down and feel anything… but now I look forward to coming and love how I feel at the end of the class.

About Lori

With years of experience and education in Child and Youth Care, Family Services and Mental Health and Addictions, the depth of my lived experience is the most valuable expertise I bring to clients, students and health care professionals. This expertise is beyond information, it is wisdom that comes from the integration of experience and knowledge.

With associates around the globe, I am honoured to be one of 10 people in Canada certified to facilitate Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY).

As a trauma survivor, I know this experience in every level of my being from where it began in my childhood, through difficult times and darkness to the liberated and empowered life I live now. It doesn’t mean I walk around in bliss all day, it means I respond to life as it is, with steadiness, flow, and clarity. And you can too.
Someone once said that I am a strong woman in spite of all that has happened. I say it is because of my experience that I am resilient, strong, and committed to supporting others in their healing journey.

The more I have learned, the more fascinated I have become with the healing potential of the body, mind and spirit. I chose to dive deeper into dedicated studies to learn more about the clinical perspective, and continue to deepen my own yoga practice that has awakened a sense of connection within me I had never felt before. My compassion and empathy are authentic and genuine.

It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I bring this transformational practice to you. Contact me to explore options.

About Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga

Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is an empirically validated, adjunctive clinical treatment for complex trauma or chronic, treatment-resistant PTSD. Developed at the Trauma Center in Brookline, Massachusetts, TCTSY has foundations in Trauma Theory, Attachment Theory, and Neuroscience as well as Hatha Yoga practice with an emphasis on body-based, modified yoga forms and breathing practices. TCTSY is recognized in the National Registry for Evidence Based Practices and Programs (NREPP) as an evidence-based practice.

At the Trauma Center we believe that in order for self regulation to happen, you must first have awareness and connection to bodily sensations and then take effective action based on what you feel in your body. From there and with practice, self regulation begins to naturally occur. TCTSY intersects the science of the western world with the art of ancient practices.

My Approach [read more...]

I will guide you through some movement and you will have choice in everything you do. There are no hands on assists, you are in charge of your body at all times. With this approach, the power resides within you, not the facilitator (me).

In EmpowerYoga TCTSY sessions and programs, I will practise with you while being fully present for whatever arises from laughter to tears, movement to stillness. Throughout the practice, you will have the opportunity for choice making for your body in the present moment based on what you are feeling in your body. Although we employ physical forms and movement, the emphasis is on the internal experience.

We do not discuss or process your story or the past, I don’t need to know the specifics of your experience with trauma. I trust that you are working with me because you need to.

Once we have worked together, you are welcome to join the pre-paid drop in classes as a continuation of your healing and recovery.

Restorative Therapeutics

is a passive practice that primarily allows the central nervous system to rest. When the nervous system rests, the potential for healing is awakened.

Restorative Therapeutics for Pain Management

People live in a stress state of some kind most of the time, it’s part of our fast paced world. Because our systems simply cannot sustain stress indefinitely, people often move from stress directly to collapse with nothing between.

Restorative Therapeutics offers the opportunity for you to experience benefits of deep rest such as lower blood pressure and reduced stress levels; reduction in muscle tension, insomnia and fatigue; improvement in digestion and hormonal balance; and overall improvement of mental, emotional and physical health.

Restorative yoga forms are passive, supported, and you rest in the form for 5-20 minutes or longer.

In our first session we will review your intake form and determine your needs for our working together. You may wish to stay in one form for the duration of our 60 minute session, while other times you might explore and rest in two or three forms. Sessions may include breathing practices, guided meditation, guided body scans, and gentle guided awareness of sensation. As in all EmpowerYoga offerings, I bring a trauma informed approach and you will have choice in everything you do. All sessions are designed to support you in a home practice.

Yoga Nidra Meditations

The art of transformational sleep.
This ancient practise of non-doing is based on teachings from the Amrit Yoga Institute

About Yoga Nidra

EmpowerYoga offers the Amrit Method of Yoga Nidra, a deeply rooted ancient practice referred to as ‘The Art of Non-Doing’ by Kamini Desai, PhD, Education Director at the Amrit Yoga Institute and author of ‘Yoga Nidra, The Art of Transformational Sleep’.

With nearly 200 hours of training and several years of consistently offering yoga nidra to groups, teacher trainings and retreats, I can attest to the benefits that come with yoga nidra. A 45 minute session of yoga nidra is the equivalent of 3 hours of sleep, allowing your body to rebalance and make up for lack of sleep or disrupted sleep-and we know that sleep is a key factor in overall good health, memory, energy, tissue repair, and so much more. Using intention, yoga nidra plants seeds of subtle and profound change while you are resting, reaching a part of your consciousness that is in a sleep like state, but still awake. Shift from thinking and doing, to feeling and being.

In a typical session or class, we may do some seated gentle movement before you make yourself comfortable lying down. From there, I will facilitate the meditation while you rest.

Connect with me to book a private yoga nidra session for yourself, a group of friends or as part of a workplace wellness program.
