Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga

An Evidence Based Trauma Treatment
for Your Body, Mind and Spirit

WELCOME, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE!

Is your daily living impacted by a recent or past traumatic experience?

Do you feel stuck on your path of recovery and healing?

Need a safe place to connect without having to talk about your trauma experience?

Moving through Trauma with EmpowerYoga

Whether it’s the first step in your healing or the need to move through a barrier, I meet you where you are at, holding space for whatever arises while offering you the opportunity to connect with your body, connect your body & mind, and move toward self-regulation with accessible tools for daily living.

All practices are offered with a trauma informed approach backed by years of education and experience.

Compassionate presence, safe space, and choice in everything you do.

This is for you…

If you have experienced sexual, emotional or physical abuse, are experiencing complexities of grief relating to trauma, have history of addiction, PTSD or live with chronic pain or the impacts of traumatic injury, I am here to support you in healing and moving toward a deep sense of liberation from the captivity of your pain and struggle.

If you work with trauma survivors and are feeling close to your capacity or over the edge, we can work together to support your needs for self care and compassion, and preventative practices.

No yoga experience is required. All shapes, sizes, genders, cultures, and ages are welcome! If you can breathe, you can do this. Remember, I meet you where you are at, no expectations or agenda. The experience IS the outcome. Over time, you will naturally experience an awakening of awareness that empowers you to make choices for your body, for your being, for your life.

Sharing Their Experience

At first this was really challenging for me to slow down and feel anything… but now I look forward to coming and love how I feel at the end of the class.

About Lori

With years of experience and education in Child and Youth Care, Family Services and Mental Health and Addictions, the depth of my lived experience is the most valuable expertise I bring to clients, students and health care professionals. This expertise is beyond information, it is wisdom that comes from the integration of experience and knowledge.

With associates around the globe, I am honoured to be one of 10 people in Canada certified to facilitate Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY).

As a trauma survivor, I know this experience in every level of my being. I know that healing is possible and that there is a place beyond recovery and beyond resilience. I have moved through very difficult times to the empowered life I live now thanks to practices that keep me tuned in. It doesn’t mean I walk around in bliss all day, but it does mean that I am able to respond to life as it is with clarity and a sense of steadiness in the midst of change and challenge. And you can too.

As I continue to dive deeper into dedicated studies from a clinical perspective and the necessity to include the body in healing trauma, my fascination of the healing potential of the body, mind and spirit grows.

I am currently working toward a Masters of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies to develop Trauma Sensitive Curriculum for Health Care Education with inclusion of Social Justice, Indigenous Allyship, Self-Regulation and Co-regulation. The underlying intention of this undertaking is to create change for how trauma survivors are responded to and supported in our health care, justice, social services, education, and community services systems.

I am dedicated to being a resource for healing with trauma survivors and people who work with trauma. You will find that I am compassionate, empathetic, and authentic with a spark of humour mixed in. It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I bring this transformational practice to you. Contact me to explore options.

About Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga

Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is an empirically validated, adjunctive clinical treatment for complex trauma or chronic, treatment-resistant PTSD. Developed at the Trauma Center in Brookline, Massachusetts, TCTSY has foundations in Trauma Theory, Attachment Theory, and Neuroscience as well as Hatha Yoga practice with an emphasis on body-based, modified yoga forms and breathing practices. TCTSY is recognized in the National Registry for Evidence Based Practices and Programs (NREPP) as an evidence-based practice.

At the Trauma Center we believe that in order for self regulation to happen, you must first have awareness and connection to bodily sensations and then take effective action based on what you feel in your body. From there and with practice, self regulation begins to naturally occur. TCTSY intersects the science of the western world with the art of ancient practices.

My Approach

I will guide you through some movement and you will have choice in everything you do. There are no hands on assists, you are in charge of your body at all times. With this approach, the power resides within you, not the facilitator (me).

In EmpowerYoga TCTSY sessions and programs, I will practise with you while being fully present for whatever arises from laughter to tears, movement to stillness. Throughout the practice, you will have the opportunity for choice making for your body in the present moment based on what you are feeling in your body. Although we employ physical forms and movement, the emphasis is on the internal experience.

We do not discuss or process your story or the past, I don’t need to know the specifics of your experience with trauma. I trust that you are working with me because you need to.

Once we have worked together, you are welcome to join the pre-paid drop in classes as a continuation of your healing and recovery.

Ready to Make a Change?

Please contact me to discuss possibilities of working together or if you would like to support a client of yours with a trauma informed, body based therapeutic practice. I am here to support healing and recovery in all of its shapes and forms. I’d love to hear from you!
